One Direction: Reaching for our stars

One Direction: Reaching for our stars

One Direction (commonly abbreviated as 1D) is the world's biggest boy band. It was an English-Irish boy band with 5 members based in London. The band was composed of Niall Horan,Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and previously, Zayn Malik, until his departure from the band on 25 March 2015.

From left: Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne,Louis Tomlinson
The group signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Records. Propelled to international success by social media, One direction's five albums, Up all night (2011), Take me home ( 2012), Midnight Memories (2013), Four (2014)and Made in the A.M. (2015) were a great hit. There albums topped charts in most major markets.

Simon Cowell: X Factor judge

Some of there chart topping songs were: Live while we're young, Story of my life, What makes you beautiful. Personally, One Direction is my favorite band. After Malik's departure the band didn't last long. In 2016, they knew they were going there own ways.

Niall was the fastest one to decide what to do next. He signed a record deal with Capital Records and released his first song. This Town. He has no album name but he will be naming it soon. The next one was Harry.

He did a collab with Meghan Trainor. He sang Someday Maybe . Zayn had already blown off the world with Pillowtalk.

AWARDS
There awards include six brits, Four MTV video music awards, MTV Europe Music awards, Seven American music awards, 27 Teen Choice Awards among many others. They were proclaimed 2012's "Top New artist" By Billboard.

FAME

After the release of Four, One Direction became the first band in the U.S.  history to have their first four albums debut at number one. Their third album, Midnight Memories, was the biggest-selling album worldwide of 2013 despite being released in late November. The band's Where we are Tour in support of Midnight Memories and Four, was the highest- grossing tour in 2014, and the highest-grossing tour ever by a vocal group, generating $282 million. In 2014, Billboard named One Direction Artist of the Year.

The band is temporarily on a hiatus that began in January 2016, which is expected to last around 18 months.

Child Labour

CHILD LABOUR: HORRIFIC

In the late 18th century The industrial revolution took place. The Victorian Era in particular became notorious for the conditions under which children were employed. Children as young as FOUR were employed to work in factories. In my opinion these people were heartless.

Some children worked day and night, suffered and in the end they had no pay. Children suffered under the rule of Queen Victoria who in my opinion was quite uncaring. I believe she neglected her country.

In that era most child labor occured at 3 places.
Children in the V. era who suffered in child labor

- The street
- The chimneys
- The Factory

The street

On the mine children had jobs such as :
- Polishing shoes
- Sweeping the street

The chimney
On the chimney children had jobs like:

- cleaning soot in the chimney
This job was rather dangerous because the kids had to hold their breath or they could have taken in the soot. Due to that many kids suffocated and died

The Factory

In the factory jobs were:
- Cleaning the machines
Cleaning machines was also dangerous. Children lost their hands,legs...FAMILIES etc. in the factory.

Computer Games! Good or Bad?

Computer Games

Are computer games bad for you? Well this is a question to think about? Hopefully this report summarizes it all. Computer games, also known as PC games are video games played on personal computers rather than dedicated video games console or arcade machine. Some examples of computer games are: Club penguin, Call of Duty and Minecraft.
Computer games do have benefits. Research shows that computer games can therapeutic for children with chronic illnesses. In 2014, University of Utah released a study to examine effects of regular gaming on children with illnesses, such as Autism, depression and Parkinson’s disease. The results of this research proved that certain games they played show     signs of improvement in resilience, empowerment and fighting spirit.
On the other hand, it could be argued that computer games lead to addiction. Too much addiction effects their social interaction. If gamers have too little social interaction, they can end up being shy and introvert. Addiction can also under develop the gamer’s brain, this usually happens with children younger than eighteen.
Overall, most people think children should be allowed to play computer games but in a time limit. If the gamers are allowed to play freely it will be hard for them to perform well in school and it can affect their social life too. With a time limit the gamers will not get addicted and will be on the safe side.

Bukit Merah Laketown Resort

Bukit Merah Laketown Resort

Set off the North-South Expressway, this laid back resort hotel overlooks a Tasik Bukit Merah, a 3000 hectare freshwater lake. With lush greenery and trees stands Bukit Merah!!!

I went to Bukit Merah on the third day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri. It took us two hours to get there from Kampar, Perak. The Resort had two types of accomodation facilities:

  1. Kampung Air (Chalets)
     2. Laketown Hotel

I stayed in the hotel. The hotel was ok not really that posh. I didn't like the room because impressively for the first time there was a lizard! That just summarizes that the hotel was dirty! The bathroom was clean and smelly. The room was accommodated with complimentary Wi-Fi, cable TV and mini fridges, as well as tea and a kettle. It also had a outdoor pool.

Near the hotel was a plaza. It had cafes and souvenir shops. There were no food choices except local Malaysian food. We had to go to taiping to eat! It was quite hectic.
Some of the activitties

Other activities were:

  • Ecopark (animal are not caged)
  • Waterpark
  • Adventure park (opening soon)

The Waterpark was quite good. Firstly, I had a zip on my swim suit so that's why i couldn't go on a slide. Secondly, you had to rent a tube for RM 30!!!!! That was quite cheeky and greedy for money.

Otherwise my stay was great. If not for these mistakes it would have been amazing! So I recommend not to visit this place it just wastes money!

Not a good experience

Youth Social Responsibility SEDEX UTP

Youth Social Responsibility UTP

Youth Social Responsibility is a social program for kids of primary-secondary. It is a program to for kids to get to know children of ohter religons and races. I was also in that program. I believe it did make me want to interact with others. An indian girl beacame my friend we did the three legged race together.

UTP's logo
The program's slogan was Bridging Boundaries! It was held by the students of Universiti Teknologi Petronas. The UTP bus came to pick us up. A maximum of 40 students went. The bus ride was great.

One of my great friends  said " The event was well-organised and it had been a great experience" Well I can't agree less. These are some of the games we played:

- Three legged race

- Balloon race

- Knock the pyramid etc.

Other times we had a visit to their Information Resource Centre (IRC library)
They also provided breakfast and lunch. For breakfast we were given a small cactus water and a bun. For lunch we were provided with rice and some curry. I didn't really like the food.

Overall it was a great experience
